But unlike a TV show like Grand Designs or The Block which are good to look at for ideas, this is your home you about to renovate or extend. Renovating poses a particularly unique set of risks to Renovators & there existing home.

But the most overlooked risk which is not understood is the insurance on the home during the renovation.

Typically, domestic insurers do not provide cover for Renovators throughout the duration of their build. Often, a policy will be automatically cancelled for renovation works, or some home policies can impose exclusions, this may include any claims relating to storm and water damage, damage done to the existing structure as a result of the construction, or public liability claims related to the build.

Questions:

1 Is the insurance still valid for my renovation construction value at $

2 If yes, what exclusions will apply when renovating?

3 Will the policy cover for damage to the existing home caused by construction works?

4 Will the policy cover for public liability claims relating to the construction such as damage to the neighbour house, injury to member of the public?

5 Will you continue to cover my contents during the renovations?
